Inverness Airport Car Hire: The Best Companies

by Paul Joseph  |  Published June 19, 2017

Inverness Airport has a total of nine car hire companies serving visitors to the city, located on Scotland’s northeast coast and the cultural capital of the Scottish Highlands. There’s plenty to see and do in Inverness and the best way to experience it all is to drive around. Regarded as a gateway to Loch Ness, Inverness is within easy reach by car from this world famous attraction. You can circle the lake and even if you don’t catch a glimpse of the fabled Loch Ness monster, you’ll get to see sights like Urquhart Castle, a 13th century medieval fortress, along the way.

Inverness Airport is a tiny terminal and the hire companies can all be found a quick bus ride away, meaning you should be able to access your car fairly quickly after passing through the arrivals lounge, if you’re lucky with bus times. Once you’re there, just make sure you have your driver’s license, a credit or debit card and a form of ID to hand.

Best value: Alamo

Book at RentalCars.com

Alamo came out on top when it came to best value car hire companies at Inverness Airport. The choice of cars they offer at affordable rates is vast, with six different cars available for less than £100 for almost all of the searches we ran across varying dates – even during the busy summer season. Upon arrival all you need to do is make your way outside the exit at baggage reclaim, where an Enterprise representative will await your arrival. The shuttle ride to Alamo desk takes just three weeks. However, be aware, during the week thee desk, is open from 8am – 7pm, but on weekends those hours are somewhat shorter.

Best for families: Avis

Book at RentalCars.com

According to our research, Avis are your best bet for family-friendly car hire from Inverness Airport. Their range of cars includes several that are ideal for families with kids and extra luggage, including numerous affordable options such as the Peugeot 3008, Hyundai Tucson SUV and VW Passat (renowned for its boot space) or for something a little flashier the Mercedes C and E Class too. Conveniently situated in the airport terminal, the Avis desk is open until 10.15pm every day except Saturday, when it closes at 6pm.

Best for luxury cars: Enterprise

Book at RentalCars.com

When we looked into luxury car hire at Inverness Airport, the thing that stood out was the consistently ‘superb’ customer reviews for Enterprise. Then we looked a little closer and we found that their choice of high-end cars is not far off that description either. Whether it’s sumptuous and spacious SUVs, cool coupes or spell-binding saloons, Enterprise offer them all. Their desk is a quick shuttle ride away from the airport terminal and the company also helpfully mentions on their website that booking online and in advance ensures you’ll get their lowest prices.
