Malaga Airport Car Hire: The Best Companies

by Paul Joseph  |  Published September 28, 2017

Málaga–Costa del Sol Airport has over 20 car hire companies serving visitors to this popular coastal city in southern Spain. Whether you’re planning to explore the region by car or simply drive to your chosen accommodation and back again at the end of your trip, TravelMag.com has researched the best options available. To help make your choice, we’ve narrowed them down to three separate categories: Best value, Best for families and Best for luxury.

Of the 20 rental companies at Malaga airport, 8 are located inside the airport terminal, with desks on the Ground Floor Arrivals Area of Terminal 3 by Baggage Collection. Most cars are kept in one of two car parks, both connected to Terminal 3 through the transportation hub, and the rest can be found on Avenida Garcia Morato running parallel to the airport. For the latter, most companies provide a courtesy bus to reach your rental car.

Our car rental company search results

TravelMag.com have researched pricing, choice of cars, previous customer reviews and policies of all 20 car rental companies at Malaga Airport to determine the three best options for you. You’ll find the results below.

Best value: Record Go

For pricing, renters will find Record Go offer the cheapest prices. Their rates, combined with consistently strong customer reviews, put them in front of their competitors, although inter rent did run them close, with slightly better overall reviews. Another advantage of Record Go is that they tend to offer more spacious options in their budget range. They also have better opening hours compared with inter rent, with their desk at Malaga Airport open from 7am – 11pm.

Best for families: Alamo

Book at RentalCars.com

Alamo’s rental desk at Malaga Airport welcomes families with their wide choice of larger cars. All rental companies at Malaga offer fully regulated child and baby seats, so the main choice comes down to size and comfort, and for that Alamo certainly leads the pack. However, the one downside is that Alamo’s desk is located off-site and requires a shuttle bus to get to – perhaps not ideal for those with small children in tow.

Best for luxury cars: Sixt

Book at RentalCars.com

You’ll have to pay a premium, but for travellers keen to ride Spain’s coastal roads in a luxury car hire, Sixt is the best choice. We searched a number of dates and lengths of stay and for each one Sixt offered at least one top-of-the-range BMW – even during peak season. Some other companies offer lower rates, but their choice is inferior. For example, the most luxurious car offered by Centaurio is a Nissan Duke – not a sports car to be seen. This, together with very good customer reviews, should make Sixt your rental company of choice for luxury cars at Malaga Airport.
