by Paul Joseph  |  Published July 4, 2017

All of France and Europe’s major car rental companies have branches at Nice Airport. Advantage, Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, Entreprise, FireFly, Goldcar and Sixt are here to welcome you when you arrive at the airport, offering you the chance to explore the Cote d’Azur in the comfort of your own vehicle. With scenic coastal roads throughout the region, all skirting the Mediterranean sea, Nice is an ideal place to visit by car. Be sure to pop along to Monte Carlo, just a short drive east of Nice, and often referred to as Europe’s “Millionaire’s Playground”.

The car rental desks in the Nice Airport arrivals hall are open until 10pm. In Terminal 1, they are located by gates A1/A2, to the right of the information office, and in Terminal 2 you’ll find them between gates A2 and A3. Vehicle collection and return takes place in the dedicated zone at the Car Rental Center, behind car park P5 at Terminal 2. To access it, or to hire a vehicle after 10pm, you take the free shuttle to Terminal 2 from Gate A0 on the arrivals floor. Services run every 6½ minutes between 6am and 11pm and every 10 minutes from 4.30am to 6am and from 11pm until the last flight arrives.

Best value: Goldcar

Goldcar’s choice of affordable cars is excellent, with basic but comfortable vehicles including a Ford Fiesta and Fiat 500 available for just over £100 for a week’ stay. The company also scores well for past customer reviews, ensuring that they come with a seal of approval from the people that matter – people just like you. Other benefits of choosing Goldcar include access to a key-box for drop-offs, meaning you can bring your car back out of hours if you need to. They also offer 24/7 roadside assistance in several languages. Goldcar’s rental desk at Nice airport is open from 8am to 11pm every day.

Best for families: Alamo

Families visiting Nice Airport are well catered for – and we’ve picked out Alamo as the best company for typical family needs. They have a good selection of larger cars along with consistently excellent customer reviews. The Alamo desk is located in-terminal and their cars are within walking distance, so you don’t need to worry about dragging your kids and luggage onto a shuttle bus. In fact, we’d recommend that one parent stays at the terminal while the other goes off to get the car. Alamo’s desk is open from 7am to 11.30pm throughout the week.

Best for luxury cars: Sixt

There are few better destinations in Europe for driving than the Cote d’Azur and to truly get the most of your driving experience you’ll need to up the budget and go for something a little luxurious. For this purpose, we recommend Sixt as our company of choice for luxury car hire and sports cars from Nice airport. Whether it’s a rugged SUV offering spacious comfort for touring the countryside and vineyards of Southern France, or speedy convertibles for cruising along the beautiful Riviera coastline, Sixt have something for everyone. Their airport branch is open seven days a week and also offer customers a convenient 24-hour return facility.
