Casa Amatller: A Comparison of Tickets and Tours

Widely considered the finest example of Catalan modernism anywhere in Barcelona, Casa Amatller attracts large numbers of visitors every year.

Built by renowned Catalan architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch on the city’s bustling Passeig de Gràcia thoroughfare at the tail end of the 19th century, the eye-catching building was originally the residence for wealthy chocolatier Antoni Amatller. In 2014, following an extensive renovation, it opened to the public and rapidly became a popular tourist attraction as the home of Catalan modernism as well as housing a prestigious History of Art Institute. To visit Casa Amatller and the institute, you can either buy standard admission tickets or book on to a guided tour that takes in other city attractions along the way. Here’s our breakdown of the two best options – and where to book them.


If you’re only looking to visit Casa Amatller, you can purchase admission tickets for prices starting at around €17 per person. This includes access to the entire building complete with an audio guide available in English as well as several languages. To avoid queues, you can also upgrade to skip-the-line tickets as well as guided tours led by a professional staff member. Opening hours are 10am-8pm daily, and visits tend to last between 45 minutes and an hour.  If you buy tickets online, they can be stored as e-tickets on your smartphone and shown at the entrance.

You can also visit Casa Amatller as part of a small-group guided tour with an English speaking guide. During the one-hour tour, you’ll get to step back in time to turn-of-the-century Barcelona and hear fascinating stories and facts about the original quirky owner’s trips around the world and the factory of Amatller Chocolates, before sampling some chocolate for yourself. At the end of the tour, you’ll receive a complimentary box of Amatller chocolate leaves to take away with you as a gift.

If you have the time, Casa Amatller also features on the itinerary of several guided tours that include visits to at least one other attraction as part of the package.
