This list would be a disappointment if at least one of the many delicious deserts of the Philippines didn’t make the cut. Turon may well be the most unique because, like many of the items that make up Philippine cuisine, it is fried. Turon has a banana heart and a crispy skin.
The banana (and sometimes also jackfruit) is a slightly different type to those found in western supermarkets, in that they are not as sweet. This saba banana, as it is known, and jackfruit are wrapped in a flour case called lumpia, then dusted with brown sugar and deep fried. Finally they are added to a sugary syrup with sesame seeds.
