One of the most pleasant coastal towns in a county of pleasant coastal towns. Falmouth is peak Cornwall, a warren of cobbled lanes that make a perfect stomping ground for hipsters and pirates alike, and all lead down to a beautiful azure sea.

The naturally deep harbour brought money here in the 18th and 19th Centuries, then the students and tourists picked up where the maritime trade left off. The bedrooms are bright and airy (and fitted with all the mod cons), the quay is just a short walk away, and the breakfast – served in a trendy dining area – is made with all locally sourced produce. Cornwall was once famous for its pirates, but the only steal here is the price! That’s right, Chellowdene Guest House is one of the real buried treasures amid Falmouth’s hotel scene. Located smack bang on the harbour itself, the trendy nautical themes of this hotel, plus is exposed beams will have you almost convinced you’ve put to sea in some 18th Century tea clipper – albeit one with WiFi, TVs, and oh-so-comfy beds. It’s also fair to say that most tea clippers didn’t have on site restaurants of quite this quality either, but still, it can be nice to dream.
