Serving the provinces of Verona, Brescia, Mantua and Trentino-Alto, Verona Villafranca Airport (VRN) is located 10km south of Verona. It’s easy to fall in love with Verona, but there’s also plenty else to see. Lake Garda, in the nearby foothills and Venice are just a few of the destinations within an hours drive of VRN airport.

In order to properly visit this magnificent region, we recommend renting a car. In total, there are nine car rental companies operating out of VRN with most of the counters located in Terminal 2 – just follow the car rental signs after you pick up your luggage.

To pick out which of these deserve the top spots across three separate categories (Most Affordable, Best for Luxury and Best for Minivans), TravelMag.com has conducted extensive research across all the agencies operating from the airport and come up with the following results.

Most Affordable – Noleggiari

Noleggiari is not the best known car rental company or the easiest to pronounce, but it is hard to beat when it comes to cheap car rental in northern Italy. On the whole, its economy models are considerably cheaper rates than its competitors. For example, its Citroen C1 and Fiat Panda Corsa are rented out at under €75 during the whole of September. Some reviewers have experienced slow wait times when picking up vehicles at the their offices at VRN, however, on the whole, visitors have a positive experience and this is reflected on its overall score of 7.7 out of 10. Noleggiari’s office is open from 8.30am to 7pm daily.

Best for Luxury – Sixt

As is the case in most European cities, Sixt’s fleet at Verona Airport impresses. Apart from the great selection of German and Italian cars, there’s a certain professionalism and calmness in the way their staff process bookings that make them stand apart. Prices are also competitive with other car rental companies. For instance, something like a BMW 1 Series doesn’t go for much more than most of the everyday car options people generally choose. Sixt earns some extra points for offering unlimited mileage for its vehicles. That’s important for visitors to this area as it offers a whole range of beautiful attractions. Sixt also improves the deal with built-in extras like theft protection, third-party liability and a collision waiver.

Best for Minivans – Noleggiari

Noleggiari might not be the first name to come to mind when looking to rent a minivan, but at VRN airport, they have a fine selection of roomy rental cars. No-nonsense options like the Opel Zafra is an obvious choice for parents with three kids, while 7-seater vehicles like the Citroen C4 Grand Picasso and the Ford Galaxy offer all the space for a family of several generations. Finally for even bigger groups, Noleggiari has a 9-seater Citroen Space Tourer on its books. On the whole, Noleggiari receives above average feedback which is why we have selected them as the best choice in the minivan category.
