THE MOST EXPENSIVE DESTINATIONS IN SOUTH AFRICA

by Kathy Kehrli  |  Updated November 24, 2015

Cape Town’s affluent suburb of Camps Bay has just been named the priciest South African destination. The titled was handed out by TravelMag.com after conducting a survey of the country’s hotel lodging costs. The survey specifically analyzed 30 popular destinations within South Africa. For comparative purposes, the upcoming high season of December 2015 to March 2016 was considered.

An overnight visitor to Camps Bay can expect to spend R1252 nightly in the coming months, and that’s for the least expensive double room. It bears pointing out that the survey excluded hotels and guest houses that were not centrally located and/or that had an overall rating of less than 3 stars.

Coming in second place on the survey is Franschhoeck. One of South Africa’s oldest towns, its average overnight rate of R1137 put it solidly in the number two spot. Rounding out the Top 3 is Marloth Park. Staying in this nature lover’s sanctuary at the southern edge of Kruger National Park will cost an overnight guest an average of R993 in the months ahead.

Cape Town and Johannesburg rank in the midfield, with average rates of R834 and R706 respectively for their cheapest double room. The most affordable destination in South Africa is Port Elizabeth. There visitors should find a room during the high season for about R500 per night, according to the survey.
