The UNESCO World Heritage Site of Galle is an evocative reminder of Sri Lanka’s role in the colonial Indian Ocean spice trade. This fortified city, built by the Dutch on a stout promontory and bordered by the ocean on three sides, is a vibrant piece of living history.
