Cabo San Lucas is a picturesque resort on the southern tip of Mexico’s Baja California peninsula. Known for its white beaches, water-based activities, arching stone cliffs and above all, its raucous nightlife, it’s essential to rent a car here to make the most of all the activities on offer.

Serving this popular resort, Los Cabos International Airport (SJD) is the fifth busiest airport in Mexico. Not surprisingly, it has many car rental options both inside each terminal (domes-tic and international) and on the property near by.

To determine which rental car companies offer the best vehicles across our three categories (Most Affordable, Best for Luxury, Best for Minivans), TravelMag.com carefully researched prices, availability, policies and customer reviews of the twelve car rental companies operating out of SJD airport. Here are our findings:

Most Affordable: Mex

Local car rental company, Mex have a fleet of vehicles at SJD Airport that includes the Kia Rio and the Volkswagen Polo. Easy-to-drive and with impressive fuel consumption, both of these cars can be hired for around $280 a week – about 20% cheaper than the competition. Included in their deal, you get a free cancellation policy within 48 hours of pick-up and unlimited mileage. With customer feedback currently at a respectable 6.5 out of 10, we feel this is the airport’s best bet for a cheap car rental.

It’s worth noting that all rental car companies listed at RentalCars.com are trustworthy, so its quite safe to just pick the lowest rental for your dates. However, we would recommend that you stick with a company that is located at the airport terminal of SJD Airport.

Best for Luxury – Sixt

As is the case in most international airports, Sixt is easily the best option for luxury rental cars at SJD Airport. Sixt’s fleet includes luxury vehicles like the Jeep Renegade, the Chev-rolet Cruze and for larger groups, the Dodge Gran Caravan and the Jeep Wrangler. If you’re looking to explore somewhere more rugged, like the Sierra de Luna mountains, then we’d recommend renting an SUV like the Ford Escape. Prices vary tremendously according to the vehicle chosen, but to get an idea, in the low-season, the Jeep Renegade costs $177 per day and in high-season, $400 per day.

Best for Minivans – National

People looking for a minivan to move the group around Los Cabos should head to National. National’s fleet includes minivans like the 7-seater Dodge Gran Caravan and the 11-seater Nissan Urvan. On reading customer feedback, users were particularly impressed by the cleanliness of the vehicles, the staff’s friendliness and the speedy pick up and drop off times. National also offers plenty of perks with their standard deal like free cancelation within 48 hours of pick up, unlimited mileage and the possibil-ity to add an extra driver and a baby seat for $9 per day.
