Maui, Hawaii’s second largest island, plays host to a diverse array of landscapes, including barren, volcanic peaks and rainforest-coated coastlines. Among the many novel ways to explore the island’s remarkable wilderness, none is quite as thrilling as an ATV tour, which allows you to get off the roads. Here are three different types of ATV tour in Maui, all selected for their value for money, itineraries, and health and safety measures, among other considerations.

ATV adventure in the West Maui mountains

Get onto dusty mountain tracks, leaving Wailuku behind and entering into the kind of rugged terrain that can only be accessed with an ATV. You’ll start this guided tour with a quick orientation before heading out for a 90-minute tour that takes in views of distant waterfalls and the Pacific Ocean, while receiving commentary from your tour guide about the landmarks around these parts. All safety gear is provided. Departures Mon-Sat. From $188 per person.

Maui dual zipline and ATV mountain adventure

Combine a number of Maui’s best outdoors exploration activities on this excellent half-day tour from Lahaina along the island’s west coast. Take an impressive two-mile zipline over the tropical undergrowth of a wide valley, then head deeper into the rainforest on an ATV, before heading further on foot, crossing a 360-foot (110-metre) suspension bridge along the way. This tour runs from Mon-Fri each week, with morning departures at either 7am or 11:30am. From $215 per person.

Lahaina ATV adventure

The dune buggy-style ATVs on this Maui tour are a truly awesome way to explore the rugged coastline along the far western shores of the island. You’ll spend two hours whizzing down the miles of off-roading tracks around Lahaina, through the many acres of Pu’u Kukui Watershed Preserve, to clifftop viewpoints overlooking the Pacific. Please note that the price is for a solo driver, although there are heavily discounted fees for adults who share a vehicle and take turns at driving. From $380 per person.
