When it comes to warmth, durability and sustainability, few brands can compete with Patagonia. Founded in 1973, Patagonia has become synonymous with high-tech fabrics, high performance and eco-friendly credentials. But amongst its patented products, the Nano Puff series comes up trumps. The original design has been tweaked slightly over the past few years, but it’s just as reliable as ever. Today’s iteration uses 100% recycled PrimaLoft® Gold insulation made with P.U.R.E. technology (Produced Using Reduced Emissions), 100% recycled shell and lining and a durable water-repellent finish made without perfluorinated chemicals. There are a few items in the series, so to help you choose the best option for your tastes and requirements we’ve compared each of the Nano Puff Jackets and Hoodies for men and women.

Men’s Nano Puff Jacket

Patagonia’s Nano Puff Jacket for men is an excellent option for outdoor enthusiasts. Constructed with lightweight yet durable materials, it offers an excellent warmth-to-weight ratio, making it a good buy for those inclined to participate in a variety of activities. The jacket features 60-g PrimaLoft® Gold Insulation Eco, providing warmth even when wet, and a water-repellent shell made from 100% recycled polyester ripstop. The design is sleek and available in nine stylish colours. From $239.

For those seeking extra protection from the elements, the Nano Puff hoodie is an excellent option. Designed with the same attention to detail as the Nano Puff Jacket, the hoody offers enhanced warmth with a cosy hood. The men’s and women’s versions of the jacket are almost identical, though chances have been made to the design of the latter for a female-specific fit. The hoody is slightly heavier than the jacket, though only just, at 363g. From $289.

Nano Puff Fitz Roy Trout Hoody for Men/ Women

The Nano Puff Fitz Roy Trout Hoody is almost exactly the same as the standard Nano Puff Hoody with some minor tweaks. Like the standard hoody, the Fitz Roy Trout is made from a lightweight 100% recycled polyester ripstop shell with a durable water-repellent (DWR) finish and PrimaLoft® Gold Insulation Eco for warmth. It also features two zip handwarmer pockets finished with zipper garages and a centre-front zipper. The main difference between the two lies in the drawcord-adjustable drop-tail hem which seals in warmth and the Fitz Roy Trout logo on the left chest. The women’s and men’s versions of the hoody are almost exactly the same, bar some design alterations to the underarm area, and it is available in the same three colours. From $289.

The Nano Puff Parka is billed as an extension of the Nano Puff family but in a parka length. That means it features exactly the same 60-g PrimaLoft® Gold Insulation Eco and recycled polyester shell, though this iteration features a traditional brick pattern instead. It weighs around 369g – impressively lightweight for its length – and features a two-way full-length zipper to protect against wind and precipitation, zippered pockets to keep valuables safe and elasticized cuffs for extra warmth. It’s designed to hang just above the knee for women of average height between 5 ft 4 and 5 ft 6. It is currently available in five colours. From $299.
