by Stephanie Baker  |  Published February 6, 2017

The Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) has 12 car rental companies to choose from. Do you have plans to fly in? TravelMag.com researched the Chicago O’Hare Airport car rental company selections and chose the top company for three separate criteria: best value, best for business travelers, and top luxury car service.

The rental car services at Chicago O’Hare Airport are off-site, but a 24-hour shuttle will take customers to their rental location. Our search through RentalCars.com also showed seven of the suppliers offer 24-hour car rental pickup: Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Hertz, National, and Payless. Service hours at the other ORD car rental companies vary, so be sure to check prior to arrival.

Our car rental company search results

TravelMag.com thoroughly researched the cost, vehicle selection, reviews and policies of all 12 ORD car rental companies to determine which agency offers the best experience across our three categories. And the winners are:

Best value: Alamo

Our research showed Advantage offered the lowest rates out of the Chicago O’Hare Airport car rental company options, but we chose Alamo instead. While Advantage as a rental agency has a respectable track record in general, the low prices offered at their ORD location come with a different price—their ratings are lower than the competitors and they do not boast many flattering reviews. Alamo offered the second lowest prices available across various dates with excellent ratings in service, car quality and vehicle selection through both Google and RentalCars.com. Competitors with similar ratings had substantially higher rates, making Alamo our choice in best value.

Best for business travelers: Hertz

Hertz is a common suggestion when talking business traveler perks, but they nearly tied in with Enterprise in our search. We chose Hertz over Enterprise for two reasons: Hertz Gold Choice availability and 24-hour counter service. Convenience is an essential consideration for renters constantly travelling on business, and this is an area where Hertz excels. Flying in at 2 a.m.? No problem for Chicago O’Hare Hertz renters! Not a fan of your pre-selected vehicle? Hertz Gold Choice allows you to pick a new one at no extra charge. Enterprise does offer lower prices, but your best bet for no-hassle pickups and returns remains Hertz.

Top luxury car service: Budget

Book at RentalCars.com

Since pricing for luxury vehicles across ORD car rental competitors was similar in our research, we chose Budget as the top luxury service provider based on ratings, reviews, service and availability. This Budget location receives high ratings for helpfulness of staff, service quality and vehicle condition. Their luxury vehicle selection is impressive as well, offering the Ford Taurus Limited as a premium option versus the Chevy Impala its runner-ups (Alamo and Enterprise) supply. And whether your taste in luxury vehicles is muscle and power or elegance and grace, Budget’s fleet availability is sure to please.
