This Vermont Farm Lets Visitors Spend The Day With A Pack Of Golden Retrievers

What if I told you Vermont has a place where ten Golden Retrievers can all decide you are their favorite person at the same time?

Yeah, good luck keeping your dignity around that many good boys.

One dog wants scratches. Another is leaning against your leg. A third has already figured out that you have two perfectly usable hands.

This scheduled farm experience gives you dedicated time with a whole group of Goldens, and the wagging-tail committee takes it from there.

The farm has plenty happening beyond the paws, including maple syrup, honey, and a farm store.

Still, let’s be realistic.

Nobody is driving home talking about the honey first.

Wear comfortable shoes and pick clothes that can handle a little fur.

The dogs may be called retrievers, but somehow they are the ones taking your heart home.

The Golden Retriever Experience centers on direct time with a group of at least 10 Golden Retrievers.

Visitors join the dogs in a designated area rather than watching from a distance. The dogs move around the group, interact with one another, and spend time near guests during the session.

Golden Dog Farm does not breed the dogs used in the experience. The Goldens come from Butternut Goldens, a nearby breeder that has raised AKC Golden Retrievers since 1998.

The partnership between the breeder and Golden Dog Farm began in 2023.

Wear clothing that can handle fur, grass, and damp paws. Farm ground can also be uneven, so closed-toe shoes with decent traction are a practical choice.

The experience is structured and scheduled rather than open-ended. Guests arrive for a specific reservation time, participate with the group, and leave when the session ends.

There is no need to bring dog gear. The visit is built around interacting with the Goldens already participating in the farm experience.

Outside dogs are not allowed at the Golden Retriever Experience.

Guests should follow the directions provided for interacting with the dogs and remain within the designated areas used for the session.

The Experience Lasts About Ninety Minutes

The standard Golden Retriever Experience lasts about 90 minutes.

The 90-minute format leaves time for other stops in northern Vermont before or after the reservation. Plan enough time to arrive, check in, take part in the full session, and leave without rushing.

The farm also offers a private Golden Retriever Experience for groups of up to 40 people. That version also runs for about 90 minutes.

The standard experience is a group event, so guests may share the session with other ticket holders. Everyone participating needs a reservation.

Children can attend, but younger guests should remain with the adults responsible for them and follow the farm’s participation rules.

The experience takes place on a working farm outdoors. Bring a light rain layer when showers are possible and a warmer layer during cooler months.

Vermont conditions can change quickly, especially outside midsummer. Checking the forecast before leaving helps you choose shoes and layers without overpacking.

The scheduled visit centers on about 90 minutes with a group of Golden Retrievers.

Private and standard sessions both follow set reservation times, so check your confirmation before leaving for the farm.

Butternut Goldens has been breeding Golden Retrievers since 1998 and supplies the dogs that participate in the Golden Dog Farm experience.

Golden Dog Farm itself is not a breeder. It does not sell or adopt out the dogs visitors meet during the experience.

Butternut Goldens and Golden Dog Farm began working together in September 2023.

Golden Dog Farm partners with Butternut Goldens for the Golden Retriever Experience.

If you have questions about the breed, ask staff during the visit when appropriate. Keep in mind that the experience is not a veterinary consultation, training class, or sales appointment.

Individual dogs may participate differently during the session, so follow staff directions when approaching, petting, or spending time around the group.

Let the dogs move naturally through the designated experience area rather than trying to hold or direct them for photos.

The structured format keeps the group together during the scheduled visit and gives staff a clear way to manage the session.

Reservations Are Required For The Experience

Golden Retriever Experiences are reservation-only.

Walk-in participation is not offered, so choose a date and book before driving to the farm.

Current scheduling extends through December 2026, with dates offered across different seasons.

Availability changes as reservations are made, so check the booking calendar for the specific day you want rather than relying on an older schedule.

Golden Dog Farm is a working farm and private home, and experiences operate by reservation.

Bring the reservation details with you and arrive with enough time to get oriented before the session begins.

Everyone taking part needs a ticket. Outside dogs are not allowed to join the experience.

Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

Seasonal conditions can change the feel of the property. Summer brings longer daylight and warmer temperatures. Autumn changes the surrounding hills and trees, while late-season visits may require heavier layers and sturdier footwear.

Rain can leave grass and farm paths damp, so quick-drying clothes and shoes that can handle mud are useful.

Plan around the reservation time first, then add nearby stops before or after the experience if you want a longer day in the area.

The Working Farm Extends Beyond The Dog Experience

Golden Dog Farm is a working farm and private home rather than a property built only for dog visits.

The farm covers roughly 275 acres in northern Vermont.

That larger agricultural setting includes fields, farm buildings, maple production, beekeeping, and other seasonal work.

Visitors should stay within the areas designated for their booked experience and follow directions from staff while on the property.

The property also includes maple production, beekeeping, fruit trees, berries, nuts, and other farm activities.

Other offerings can vary by season, so check current options if you want to combine the Golden Retriever session with another farm-based activity.

The property sits near Jeffersonville and the Smugglers’ Notch area, where hills and wooded slopes shape much of the surrounding landscape.

Wear clothing suited to grass, gravel, damp ground, and changing weather.

Keep bags and loose items organized during the visit so they do not end up in the dogs’ path.

If you are taking photos, use a phone strap or secure case rather than setting a device on the ground.

Stay within the designated guest areas and follow the arrival instructions for your scheduled experience.

Golden Dog Farm produces its own maple syrup and honey.

Maple syrup was the farm’s first agricultural product in spring 2021, followed by honey that summer.

The farm also grows or produces other foods, including fruit, berries, and nuts.

Vermont maple production has a long history, and sugaring remains a major part of the state’s agricultural identity.

Maple syrup is produced on the same working farm where the Golden Retriever experiences take place.

The farm also produces honey through its beekeeping operation.

The farm store carries products from the property and is currently open Wednesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., although hours can change with season and operations.

If you want to visit the store, check current hours before making a separate trip.

The farm is located at 1039 Pratt Road, Jeffersonville, VT 05464.

That is the address to use for the property, while individual experiences may still include their own arrival or check-in instructions.

If your reservation and store visit fall on the same day, leave enough time between them so you are not watching the clock during the dog session.

Pond Time Depends On The Event You Book

Golden Dog Farm has a pond, and some special or seasonal Golden Retriever events include dogs playing near or in the water.

Pond time is not a guaranteed feature of every standard Golden Retriever Experience.

Check the description for the exact event you book if time near the pond matters to you.

Golden Retrievers were historically developed as retrieving dogs, and many individuals are comfortable around water, but each dog still behaves differently.

If an event includes pond access, wear clothes and shoes that can handle splashes and wet grass.

A towel or change of clothes can also be useful if the event description suggests close contact with dogs after they have been in the water.

Keep phones and cameras protected from splashes.

Do not enter the pond or encourage dogs into the water unless the event instructions specifically allow it.

The farm’s scheduled activities can change with season, weather, and the type of experience being offered.

Read the event details before leaving home rather than assuming a feature from a past event will be part of your visit.

The standard Golden Retriever Experience runs about 90 minutes, requires advance reservations, and includes at least 10 Golden Retrievers on the working farm.
