Located in the western province of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon John G. Diefenbaker International Airport (YXE) is the province’s main airport and, if nothing else, is a mouthful to pronounce.

Recently rebranded and renamed Skyxe, the rental car agencies here are presently located outside the main terminal, but as of April 2019, they’ll be moved closer to the airport, in the P2 parking lot.

To select the best of the multiple options on offer, Travelmag.com have conducted research to come up with the following results. We’ve split our findings into three categories: Most Affordable, Best for Luxury and Best for Business – so all the major bases are covered.

Most affordable: Alamo & Hertz

Through our online research, Alamo consistently produced the best cheap car rental options. For example, you can rent the Kia Rio at an economical $50 per day, a car that gives further value for money by returning 58.8 miles per gallon and emitting just 109g/km of CO2. In a country as a large and eco-sensitive as Canada, fuel consumption and emissions are important factors. At the other end of the scale, Alamo rents out the sporty Dodge Charger for just ten dollars more. With its heart-pounding acceleration, this is a car capable of eating up the miles. If you can’t find a suitable vehicle at Alamo, then we suggest heading over to Hertz, which has almost identical prices and a similar fleet to Alamo.

Best for luxury cars: Alamo & Avis

Our search for the agency with the best selection of luxury cars also placed Alamo at the top of the YXE airport rental car list. In among their selection of premium cars, you’ll find SUVs, Jeeps and beefy sedans like the Chrysler 300 and the aforementioned Dodge Charger. Alamo is renowned for its friendly service and the newness of their cars – important in a country with such large distances between its points of interest. Avis’s Jeep Grand Cherokee, at $91 per day, is another vehicle that combines power with luxury and is as equally adapt on highways as it is in the Canadian countryside.

Best for Minivans: Hertz & Alamo

Whether your group is hoping to head into Wanuskewin Heritage Park or simply use a minivan to visit the town, you’ll probably be hiring a Chrysler Town & Country, as it was the only available minivan on our sample dates. Luckily, this is a slick minivan with plenty of room, capable of accommodating 7 people in a high degree of comfort. On the dates we looked at, Hertz and Alamo had the best prices at around $85 per day.
