Located in the heart of beautiful Gallatin Valley, Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport (BZN) is located 13km from Bozeman in Montana. With over 450.000 passenger boardings a year, it is the busiest airport in Montana and the principal point of arrival for excursions to the two Yellowstone National Parks.

To rent a car, there are eight major rental car agencies whose offices can be found right next to the baggage claim. Apart from the all the major players, you’ll also find Blacksford, a local car rental company offering Mercedes Sprinter Camper Vans – perfect for overland adventures.

To determine which rental car companies offer the best options across our three categories (Most Affordable, Best for Luxury, Best for Minivans), TravelMag.com conducted research into all of the agencies at BZN airport across several dates. Our findings are as follows

MOST AFFORDABLE: NATIONAL & ALAMO

Mitsubishi Mirage and Nissan Versa dominate the selection in the cheap car rental category with National, Alamo and Enterprise all advertising basic car rental deals at under $60. For an extra $5-10, you can pick up a Hyundai Elantra from the same companies with prices raising to $75 if you include additional drivers over 25. Indeed, if you are looking to share the driving, Alamo generally offers the best deals and, as is often the case, have a solid reputation for pricing transparency and efficiency.

BEST FOR LUXURY: ENTREPRISE & ALAMO

A lot of the car rental companies lease out the Toyota RAV4, Nissan Rouge and the Nissan Maxima as their cheapest premium car. However, if you’re looking for something a little classier, Enterprise rents out a Ford Mustang and the powerful XTS for a little over $100 per day, and the Chevrolet Tahoe (for larger groups) from $132. For those looking to go off piste and explore one of the National Parks in a certain degree of comfort, Alamo was renting out a Ford F150 at a very reasonable $98 on our sample dates.

BEST FOR MINIVANS: BLACKSFORD & ALAMO

As always, minivans tend to have the highest price tags, but once the costs are divided up among a large group, it becomes a lot more economical. It’s for this reason, we’d always recommend pushing a group’s budget to the limit to afford a more luxurious vehicle. On our sample dates, Alamo was renting out the Dodge Grand Caravan at $115 per day. However, for those looking to drive into the back and beyond, we’d recommend local rental car agency, Blacksford. Among its fleet, they rent out the Winnebago Revel 4×4 and the Mercedes Sprinter. Service is first class, with each vehicle equipped with all the creature comforts of a lovely home, including sheets, blankets, towels, plateware, silverware, pots and pans, and even a coffee maker.
