All of Dusseldorf Airport’s rental operators can be found in the Arrivals area of the airport terminal. Once you’ve picked up your car, the city is your oyster. From the airport, head 5km along the B8 to visit Classic Remise, a large car and motorbike museum which also includes a café and shops. Meanwhile a short 10km trip from the airport will see you reach the Rhine Tower where you can enjoy outstanding panoramic views of the city. These are just two of numerous ideas for how to make the most of your Dusseldorf adventure by car.

To help you find the right car hire option for you, Travelmag.com have researched all of the companies based at Dusseldorf Airport and picked out three of the best companies across three different categories: Most affordable, Best for families, and Best for luxury. Most Affordable: Alamo

It didn’t take us long to identify the best company for cheap care hire at Dusseldorf Airport. The stand-out company on this score was Alamo, who combine the cheapest prices with a diverse choice of cars and excellent customer reviews. Some of the best deals we found were for reliable models such as the Opel Corsa and Volkswagen Golf, both of which were available for less than £125 per week. The Alamo desk is located near the baggage claim in the main terminals, and their vehicles are within easy walking distance so you don’t need to worry about waiting for a shuttle or any other inconveniences we could all do without after getting of a plane. Office hours are pretty good too, with the Alamo desk open from 6am to 11pm daily.

Best for families: Budget

Families visiting Dusseldorf are likely to want something a little more spacious than the options given above, and are probably prepared to pay that bit extra for the privilege. Our searches found Budget to be the best choice for larger, family-sized cars – especially in the Estate category. The Ford Focus Estate, for example, has excellent cabin and boot space, and can be snapped up for less than £200 a week on most of the dates we searched. Customer reviews are impressive too, consistently hovering between good and excellent. Office hours at Dusseldorf Airport are 6am to 11.30pm midweek and 6.30am to 11pm on weekends.

Best for luxury cars: Enterprise

Book at RentalCars.com

For travellers keen to drive around Dusseldorf in style, there’s a wide range of luxury car hire opportunities here. And when it comes to high-end cars and sports cars, we recommend Enterprise as the best company. Among the premium cars in their fleet are the BMW 3-Series, Audi A4 and Audi A6, all of which can usually be picked up for less than £300 per week – not bad at all for such prestigious models. Enterprise also have exceptional testimonials from past customers, and their airport desk is open from 6am to 11pm every day of the week.
