Aberdeen International Airport (ABZ) is located 6 miles north of Aberdeen in the suburb of Dyce. Compared to Edinburgh and Glasgow’s airports, it is a relatively small but small airports have the advantages; namely, the speed in which you can get through them and the ease at finding its services.
There’s no better way to travel around this part of Scotland than in a rented car. ABZ’s five car rental companies, Enterprise, Rent-A-Car, Avis, Europcar, Hertz and Sixt, are located just outside the main terminal.
To determine which rental car companies offer the best vehicles across our three categories (Most Affordable, Best for Luxury, Best for Minivans), TravelMag.com carefully researched prices, availability, policies and customer reviews of the car rental companies operating out of ABZ. Here are our findings:
Most Affordable – Enterprise
In season or out of season, renting cars at Aberdeen’s Airport is an expensive business. But if you’re looking for the cheapest rental car option, then we’d opt for Enterprise. Enterprise’s fleet includes a Vauxhall Corsa, Vauxhall Insignia and a Ford Focus with prices starting at €178 in the high season and at €134 in the low. Enterprise is one of the highest ranked rental car companies at ABZ airport and their counter, located just outside main arrivals, is easy to find. Renters also appreciate the cleanliness of their cars and the helpfulness of the staff. Opening ours are from 7am to 11pm from Mon-Sat and 10am to 8pm on Sundays.
Best for Luxury – Alamo
Alamo offers one of the best selections of luxury cars at ABX and excellent rental terms. Alamo’s fleet includes luxury editions of SUVs such as the Volvo XC60 and the classic German sedan, Mercedes-Benz E-Class. Renters commented positively on the overall condition and cleanliness of Alamo’s vehicles, as well as the ease of dropping them off. Alamo’s office is located outside the terminal, but there is always a company rep on hand to meet you in the arrivals area with your reservation. Their office opens from 7am to 11pm Monday to Friday, and 9am to 5pm on Saturday and 10am to 8pm on Sunday.
Best for Minivans – Alamo
Alamo is also our top choice for families and large groups heading on holidays in Aberdeen due to the fact that the car hire agency has the widest selection of vehicles. That means that families can go as big or as small as they want depending on of the number of people in their group. Families traveling with just a couple of kids may want to save money and go with a Ford S-Max. There are also roomier options like the 9-seater Ford Tourneo – perfect for large groups of golfers. If Alamo is unable to deliver on the minivan of choice, its parent company, Enterprise, has almost an identical selection of vehicles with similar prices.
