Car Rental at Pensacola Airport: the best companies

Pensacola International Airport (PNS) is located three nautical miles northeast of the central business district of Pensacola in Western Florida. In spite of its name, PNS does not directly receive international flights; instead, it serves as a hub for domestic flights coming in from the Eastern US, most of which are operated by America and Delta.

Renting cars is a big business in Florida. On the first floor, in front of the baggage reclaim area, you’ll find all the major rental companies.

To pick out which of these deserve the top spots across three separate categories (Most Affordable, Best for Luxury and Best for Minivans), TravelMag.com have conducted extensive researches across all the agencies operating from the airport and come up with the following results.

Most affordable: Hertz & Alamo

Depending on your dates, popular website www.rentalcar.com will come up with varying results: in March 2019, Alamo and Enterprise are offering the best cheap car rentals while in June and July it’s Hertz, Thrifty and Dollar. Nevertheless, whichever dates we punched in, the difference in prices between the rental car companies rarely surpassed two or three dollars per day. Out of all the companies researched, it was Hertz’s Fiat 500 at around $40 that stood out as the best deal. Compact, stylish and easy to drive, this is the perfect car for zipping around the area with a minimal amount of fuss.

Best for luxury cars: Alamo & Dollar

Even in the luxury bracket, most customers are keen to snag a bargain and make a quick getaway. At PNS airport, Alamo manages to tick both these boxes, offering a quick turn-around on an ample selection of convertibles, elite sedans and SUVs, all of which are very reasonably priced. Among their fleet of cars, you’ll find the Cadillac XTS and the Ford Mustang Cabrio, which, even in high-season, was being rented out at $82 per day. For Buick fans, Dollar was leasing out the slick Buick Royal at an extremely reasonable $50 per day.

Best for Minivans: Alamo

The Dodge Grand Caravan is one of the US’s most popular minivans and it’s no surprise to find so many of them to rent at PNS Airport. In this competitive category, almost all the car rental companies have prices starting at around $50 per day. For slightly larger groups, Alamo rents out the 8-seater Toyota Sienna. The only vehicle in its class offering an all-wheel drive, the Toyota Sienna has plenty of space and an easy-to-use sound system with standard Apple CarPlay and Amazon smartphone integration. Moreover, its V6 engine is one of the most powerful in the category. Rental car prices on the Sienna start off at around $70 per day.
