This Kentucky Castle Welcomes Overnight Guests And Is A Fairytale Escape Before 2026 Ends

A couple started building a castle in 1969, split up in 1975, and left it unfinished for over 30 years. That’s one way to handle a breakup. Mine usually just involve ice cream.

For decades, drivers pulled over to snap photos of the half-built towers. Then came new owners, a fire in 2004, and a full rebuild. The doors finally opened to the public in 2008.

Today, this Kentucky landmark has turrets you can actually sleep in. It also has goats.

Goats doing yoga, sort of, with humans nearby. I’m convinced no royal family in history thought of that.

There’s a farm out back, a rooftop up top, and a spa in its own cottage. Not bad for a building that spent three decades as the world’s fanciest roadside photo prop.

The Kentucky Castle runs as a boutique hotel with 18 uniquely designed accommodations. That means you don’t just tour the towers. You get to spend the night in one.

Inside the castle walls, you’ll find rooms, suites, and the famous tower suites. Standard rooms come with a plush king bed and a sitting area for lounging.

Suites stretch things out with a king bed and a separate sitting room. Some even open onto a private terrace, which feels like a royal balcony minus the crowds below.

Tower suites are the real showstoppers. They’re multi-level spaces with a king bed and a kitchenette, plus privacy and scenic views.

Some suites feature four-poster beds, and most sit inside the turrets. Sleeping in a round room is a fun way to confuse your sense of direction.

Free WiFi comes with your stay, along with flat-screen TVs. Even fairytale castles need a way to stream a movie after dinner.

Book early if you want a tower suite. With only 18 options, these spots fill fast for weekends and special events, so plan ahead and grab your favorite.

Bigger groups and cozy couples both have options beyond the main building.

The castle sits amid approximately 110 acres of Bluegrass countryside, with lodging available both inside the castle and elsewhere on the property.

The Farm House sleeps up to eight guests with four beds. It also has a private deck, which is great for morning coffee and family chatter.

Then there’s the Cabin, which also fits eight guests across four beds. It offers castle views and a porch swing, so you can admire the turrets without climbing them.

Traveling as a pair? The Tiny Homes sleep two and include a king bed, a kitchenette, and a full bathroom.

They sit close to the castle, the farm, and the spa. You get your own little space while staying near all the action.

For guests who prefer a separate retreat, the castle offers private tiny homes with king beds, kitchenettes, and full bathrooms.

It’s camping with the rough edges sanded off, which is the only camping some of us can handle.

These choices make it easy to bring the whole crew. Grandparents can take the cabin while the newlyweds hide away in a tiny home, and everyone still meets for dinner.

Eggs, honey, vegetables, and meat at Castle Farm can come straight from the property. That’s the farm-to-table restaurant at The Kentucky Castle, and it takes the idea seriously.

The menu changes with the seasons. Whatever is fresh and ready shows up on your plate, so a spring visit won’t taste like a fall one.

Breakfast and lunch run daily in the morning until early afternoon. Dinner is served every evening, with slightly later hours on Friday and Saturday.

Reservations are recommended, especially for dinner. Grabbing a table at a castle is a popular idea, so don’t leave it to chance.

Reader’s Digest named it the most romantic restaurant in Kentucky. That’s a big title, and it gives date night some serious pressure to perform.

The castle has plans to grow even more on-site. Think orchards, an apiary, a mushroom garden, and even a truffle orchard down the road.

Not staying overnight? You can still book a meal here. It’s a smart way to sample the castle life before committing to a full weekend, and dessert counts as research.

Goats On The Yoga Mat Are A Real Thing Here

Yoga with goats sounds like a joke your uncle made up. At this castle, it’s an actual class, and it’s every bit as playful as it sounds.

Goat yoga sessions bring the farm animals right into your workout. Holding a pose gets a lot harder when a tiny goat wants your attention.

Prefer something calmer? Sunset yoga classes happen up on the rooftop. Stretching while the sky changes colors over horse country is a pretty great way to end the day.

The farm itself is worth a slow wander. You can stroll the formal garden and the farm grounds, where animals live just behind the castle.

Kids especially love this part of the visit. Few hotels let you go from a fancy room to petting farm animals in a few minutes.

The property is also pet-friendly. Your own four-legged buddy can come along, though the goats may have opinions about that.

Check the event calendar before you go. Classes run on a schedule, and the goat sessions are the kind of thing you’ll want to plan around rather than stumble into by luck.

A full-service spa sits in its own cottage on the grounds. It’s a short walk from the castle, which makes it feel like a quiet little retreat within a retreat.

The menu covers a lot of ground. You can book massages, body treatments, facials, and waxing.

For a relaxing spa experience, guests can choose from massages, facials, body scrubs, and other body treatments.

The spa also offers packages combining treatments such as massages, body scrubs, and facials.

Couples massages are a popular pick here. They pair nicely with a romantic dinner, if you’re building the ultimate date weekend.

Spa packages are available, and some include access to the outdoor pool. That combo turns a single treatment into a full day of lazy luxury.

Here’s a practical tip. Pool, sauna, and lounge access may cost extra depending on what you book, so ask what’s included before you reserve.

A spa day here works whether you’re staying overnight or just visiting. It’s a solid gift idea too, especially for the friend who always says they’re fine but clearly needs a nap.

Claim A Lounge Chair By The Pool Before Summer Slips Away

Swimming laps next to a castle is a summer flex. The outdoor seasonal pool here gives you that exact chance.

Overnight guests get pool access for free. That includes towel service and luxury lounge chairs, so you won’t need to pack a beach towel.

Not booked for the night? Day passes are available for purchase. They cover pool access, chair rental, and towel service.

There’s also a poolside menu with food and drinks. Snacking without leaving your chair is the kind of efficiency everyone can support.

Since it’s a seasonal pool, timing matters. Plan your visit for the warmer months if a dip is high on your list.

The pool also makes a great recovery zone after a big event. Wedding weekends and family reunions both feel a lot easier with a lazy morning by the water.

Bring sunscreen and settle into a lounge chair early. With turrets in the background, your vacation photos will look like they came from a storybook, even if you’re mostly just floating around with a snack.

Rex and Caroline Martin began building in 1969 after trips through Europe. Their plans included seven bedrooms, fifteen bathrooms, a driveway fountain, and a tennis court.

Fifteen bathrooms. For seven bedrooms. Somebody really valued options.

The couple divorced in 1975, and the castle sat unfinished for over 30 years. It became a famous roadside stop for photos.

Thomas R. Post bought the property in 2003 and called it The Castle Post. A fire in 2004 caused major damage, but the rebuild pushed forward.

The castle finally opened to the public in 2008. TKC Hospitality Group, led by Wes Henderson, took over in August 2023.

Guided tours run year-round, with some offered almost daily. They cover the history, the architecture, common areas, and selected rooms.

The Castle and Farm Tour adds a walk through the gardens and a chance to meet the animals. You’ll also get to see the rooftop views over the countryside.

Tours are a smart pick for curious visitors on a budget. You can soak up the whole wild story without booking a room first.

Few castles come with racehorses as neighbors. You’ll find The Kentucky Castle at 230 Pisgah Pike, Versailles, KY 40383, right in the heart of the state’s horse country.

Keeneland Racing Course is about a five-minute drive away. Watching horses train in the morning is a classic central Kentucky experience.

The Kentucky Horse Park sits roughly 20 minutes from the castle. It’s a fun outing for families and anyone who gets excited about horses.

Lexington is close by too. Blue Grass Airport is about five miles away, and the University of Kentucky is around nine miles off.

That location makes the castle a handy home base. You can explore farms and attractions all day, then head back to your turret at night.

Free self-parking makes coming and going simple. There’s also a gift shop on-site for grabbing souvenirs before the drive home.

Plan a long weekend if you can. Splitting time between castle perks and nearby horse farms gives you the full Bluegrass experience, with a fairytale ending every evening.
