JNB is composed of a total of six terminals, however, only terminal A1 and A2 service international flights. For those looking to rent a vehicle on arrival, the car rental companies are situated at the north end of the car rental park within the airport precinct.

To determine which rental car companies offer the best vehicles across our three categories (Most Affordable, Best for Luxury, Best for Minivans), TravelMag.com carefully researched prices, availability, policies and customer reviews of the car rental companies operating out of JNB. Here are our findings:

Most Affordable: Avis

Avis earns the top spot both for price and customer satisfaction at JNB with their cheapest vehicles starting at just €31 per day before taxes and fees. Other companies have similar priced offers, but Avis has one of the best customer ratings on rentalcars.com with an overall score of of 8.4/10. In the €30-€40 bracket, they also have a Renault Kwid and reliable hatchbacks like the Volkswagen Polo. If you book a vehicle through Rentalcars, you get unlimited mileage and free cancellation if you cancel your reservation up to 48hrs in advance.

Best for Luxury: Sixt

Worldwide, Sixt offers some of the best selections of luxury and premium vehicles (more than its competitors) for rent. And even if the choice at JNB isn’t quite as large as in other parts of the world, it receives positive feedback for its customer service and the condition of its cars. Sixt’s collection of cars at JNB includes the Mercedes C Class Edition C for just €142 per day before taxes and an 8-seater VW Kombi complete with its dark tinted glass windows, ample leg room and luggage space. The best part is that this vehicle can be rented out for under €150 per day (before taxes and fees).

Best for Minivans: Sixt

Sixt earns top spot as the best option for minivan due to the variety of vehicles on offer and the splendid reputation the company carries all around the world. Families have a number of options at JNB, including the 5-seater Suzuki Eritiga, a MVP that costs a little less than €100 per day. For larger families, there’s the Volkswagen Kombi and for really large groups, the versatile Toyota Quantum, a locally made 12-seater vehicle that costs €220 per day before taxes and fees. With Sixt, customers can also rent child safety seats and a GPS to make the experience even safer.
