At PMI, there are multiple car rental companies from international brands like Avis and Sixt to lesser known local car hire companies.

Choosing the best rental car can be difficult if you’re not familiar with the agencies in this part of the world. TravelMag.com therefore has taken a look at a variety of factors, like daily rates, fleet availability and customer satisfaction, to determine and pick out the winner in the following categories: most affordable, best for luxury and best for minivans. Our findings are shared below.

Most Affordable: Wiber

Renting a car used to be one of the cheapest aspects of holidaying in Mallorca but since the pandemic it has, like most popular destinations around the world, become one of the most expensive. Still, if you’re not too bothered about going with one of the large international brands, there are a number of budget options around with Spanish car rental company Wiber offering some of the cheapest rates and picking up most of the best reviews. On our selected dates (early September), they had a Ford Puma, Ford Focus and Fiat 500 all at under €35 per day. By spending just a few euros more, you can even get yourself a compact crossover like the Nissan Qashqai. Wiber’s rental desk is situated 5 minutes away from the airport but it offers a free minibus transfer service for all reservations and is open from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. daily.

Best for Luxury: Vanrell

For those people who have no budgetary restraints, then Sixt and Hertz have the best selection of luxury rental cars at PMI. For a more economical selection of premium cars, then the local car rental company, Vanrell has good range of small, breezy vehicles that are perfect for enjoying the beautiful views and sweet breezes of Mallorca. Renters can look forward to zipping around in cars like the Mini Cooper Cabrio, Mercedes GLC Coupe, Volkswagen T-Roc Cabriolet or even a Porsche Cayenne which at €230 per day is a bargain for this type of vehicle. The Vanrell rental office received a score of 9.6 out of 10 based on customer reviews on RentalCars.com, receiving particularly high marks for vehicle cleanliness, value for money and the location of its offices. Vanrell’s vehicles are to be found on the fourth floor of the airport’s car park.

Best for Minivans: Hertz

Hertz ticks all the boxes for those families looking for a cheap car hire to use to explore this beautiful island. Parents with jet-lagged kid will appreciate the fact that the average waiting time for pick up is only 17 minutes with the Hertz’s rental station located within walking distance of the arrival gate. Amongst its fleet, Hertz offers highly practical and family-friendly vehicles from spacey 5-seaters like the Renault Kangaroo to larger vehicles such as the 7-seater Volkswagen Caddy. Even families who need plenty of seating and space for gear can are catered for with the ultra-roomy Volkswagen Caravelle available to renters. Families looking to see as much as Mallorca as possible will appreciate the fact that Hertz actually offers unlimited mileage on their vehicles. The office located inside the airport is open daily for 24 hours per day.
