The Orange County seaside city’s vast stretch of uninterrupted coastline offers visitors a captivating taste of the authentic Californian lifestyle. But while surfing is undeniably the foremost ocean-based recreational draw here, the comparatively serene sports of kayaking and paddleboarding also have plenty of willing participants. If you’d like to try your hand at either activity in Huntington Beach, here are two rental companies we’d happily recommend.

Sundream Rentals

At Sundream Rentals, visitors and locals alike can enjoy the beauty of Los Angeles beaches with boat, kayak and paddleboard rentals, as well as expert surfing lessons, in Huntington Beach, Newport, and Long Beach. From their offices at Huntington Harbour Marina, seconds from Huntington Beach, they specialise primarily in Duffy Electric Boats but also offer a wide range of kayaks and SUP paddleboards available for full-day rental. Single kayaks are priced at $40 for 12 hours hire and tandem kayaks for $50.

One of the newer additions to Orange County’s water sports rental scene, this family-owned company has a wide assortment of brand new equipment available for hire, including kayaks and paddleboards, directly from their store on the Pacific Coast Highway on Sunset Beach. Open all year round, and with extended summer hours, pricing depends on the season but starts at $20 to take out a single kayak and SUP for three hours, rising to $60 for a double or triple kayak for an all-day rental. There’s street parking in front of the store, making it easy to load your equipment.
