This Wisconsin Farm Market Turns October Weekends Into A Full-Blown Harvest Tradition

This Wisconsin Farm Market Turns October Weekends Into A Full-Blown Harvest Tradition

If you are telling everyone, “We’ll only stay an hour,” I admire the confidence.

The corn maze alone covers eight acres.

Then there are pumpkins and wagon rides. Animals and games add even more reasons to stay. That original estimate starts looking very optimistic.

October is right in the middle of the season, so the farm is fully in autumn mode. Wisconsin gets the muddy shoes and the very real possibility that somebody will insist on one more activity before heading home.

I would give the day a little room to misbehave.

Start with whatever your group is most excited about, then stop watching the clock quite so closely.

With more than sixty-five attractions spread around the farm, you are not going to do everything.

And really, who said you had to?

Basse’s Farms runs its 2026 Pumpkin Fest from September 18 through November 1, putting October squarely in the middle of the season.

The festival is open Friday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday and Thursday hours run from noon to 6 p.m., while Tuesday and Wednesday are closed. Last admission is at 5 p.m. each open day.

That schedule gives you two different ways to plan the outing.

A Friday, Saturday, or Sunday visit gives you access to the fuller weekend lineup, including more entertainment and food options.

Monday and Thursday can suit visitors who want a slower weekday pace, although some rides, walk-through attractions, bounce activities, and shows are not part of the weekday setup.

The farm is cashless during the season, so bring a card or mobile payment option rather than relying on cash.

October weather can move from mild to chilly within the same day, so layers make more sense than one heavy coat. Comfortable shoes matter too, especially after rain.

Start with the calendar, then decide how much of the day you want to give the farm.

More Than Sixty-Five Attractions Fill The Grounds

Pumpkin Fest includes more than sixty-five attractions, which means the day can move in several directions before you ever reach the pumpkin patch.

The lineup includes pumpkin and apple bounce pillows, pedal carts, slides, ziplines, yard games, farm-themed challenges, an animal barn, a challenge ropes course, a mirror maze, play areas, and other activities spread around the property.

Wagon rides provide another way to move through the grounds and reach the pumpkin patch. For families with younger children, that can be an easier break between more active stops.

The animal barn offers goats, donkeys, sheep, llamas, and other farm animals. Elsewhere, play areas and games can keep the pace more active.

Trying to cover all sixty-five-plus attractions can turn the day into a checklist, so pick a few that matter most before you enter. The corn maze, wagon ride, pumpkin patch, and animal barn already make a substantial core plan.

From there, let the rest depend on energy and time.

Some attractions are included with admission, while certain extras carry an additional charge. That distinction is worth knowing before the day gets busy.

A simple plan usually travels better than an ambitious one on a farm this large.

The main corn maze covers eight acres and includes trivia and scavenger-hunt elements along the route.

That is enough space to make the maze feel like its own outing rather than a short walk between attractions.

Tall corn changes how you navigate quickly. Once the entrance disappears behind you, every turn starts to look more convincing than the last.

Some groups will want to solve the maze methodically, while others will be perfectly happy choosing a direction and seeing where it goes.

Shoes with good traction help if the ground is damp, and water is useful if you plan to spend time inside the maze on a warmer afternoon.

Families with younger children should stay together rather than letting everyone split into different paths. Agreeing on a meeting point before entering is another easy precaution.

The farm also has a smaller Who-Dun-It corn maze, which gives you another option when eight acres sounds like more wandering than you want.

Do not schedule the maze too tightly between other activities. Give it room.

A corn maze does not need a strict finish time, so let the next stop wait until you find your way out.

Pumpkins Stay At The Center Of The Festival

Pumpkin Fest still earns its name.

The grounds include a U-pick pumpkin patch, and pumpkins can also be purchased pre-picked. Wagon rides connect visitors with the patch on festival days when that ride is operating.

Pumpkins are an extra purchase rather than part of general admission, so decide whether you actually want to carry one home before heading into the field.

That small question becomes more important after several hours of walking.

If you are picking your own, look at more than color. Check the stem, inspect the surface, and think about where the pumpkin will end up once you get home.

A smaller one is easier to carry through the rest of the day, while a larger pumpkin may make more sense if the patch is your final stop.

The farm also uses pumpkins, gourds, corn stalks, straw bales, barns, wagons, and other seasonal elements around the grounds for fall displays and photo areas.

That gives you plenty of autumn scenery even if you do not plan to buy a pumpkin.

The festival setting does much of the decorating for you. All you need to decide is whether the pumpkin is coming home too.

Food becomes part of the schedule quickly when the day involves this much walking.

Fresh apple cider donuts are available Friday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. during Pumpkin Fest while supplies last. The Corn Crib Cafe also serves caramel apples, apple cider slushies, hot apple cider, hot chocolate, fudge, candy, and assorted popcorn.

Fresh kettle corn is another Friday-through-Sunday option, available from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. inside the festival grounds.

That timing makes weekend visits the better fit if donuts or kettle corn are high on your list.

A snack break can also reset the day before another round of attractions. Something warm works well when October air turns cooler, while an apple cider slushie gives you a different option on a mild afternoon.

Caramel apple wedges are another seasonal choice on Friday through Sunday, and the farm’s caramel apples use homegrown Honeycrisp apples.

There is no need to sample everything at once.

Pick one treat, sit down for a few minutes, and decide what still deserves your energy. On a farm with this many activities, a pause can be more useful than squeezing in one extra stop.

The festival schedule and number of attractions make it easy to spend several hours here, especially on Friday through Sunday when the broader entertainment lineup is operating.

Pig races run every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday during Pumpkin Fest, with multiple showtimes depending on the day. The Candy Cannon also appears every Friday through Sunday, while other performances rotate through selected weekends on the 2026 calendar.

That rotating schedule is another reason to decide what kind of visit you want before choosing a date. One weekend may include a Wild West performance, another a stunt show, and another a different special event.

If the core farm activities matter more than stage entertainment, any open festival day can still cover pumpkins, the maze, farm play, and other attractions available that day.

The farm remains cashless, and outside food and drinks are not permitted inside Pumpkin Fest.

Give yourself enough time to walk rather than rushing from one corner of the property to another. A full afternoon can disappear quickly when the maze, animals, pumpkins, food, and games all compete for the next hour.

Basse’s Farms is at 3190 County Road Q, Colgate, WI 53017.

A farm festival with more than sixty-five attractions does not need an equally complicated plan.

Start by choosing your visit day. Friday through Sunday brings the broader lineup, while Monday and Thursday offer a reduced weekday setup. Then choose two or three priorities before you arrive.

For one family, that may be the eight-acre corn maze, pumpkins, and wagon ride. Another group may care more about animals, games, and apple cider donuts.

Special performances rotate throughout the festival season, so choose your visit date around any show you want to catch.

Weather can affect farm conditions too. Light rain does not automatically close the farm, while heavier rain or lightning can change operations. Shoes that can handle dirt and moisture are useful even when the forecast looks decent.

If you are bringing young children, keep the day flexible enough for breaks. If you are arriving with older kids or adults, the maze and larger activity areas can take more time than expected.

The easiest approach is to leave some choices undecided.

October already supplies the pumpkins, cool air, corn, and changing season. Pick your priorities, bring a card for payment, and let the rest of the day fill itself in.
