The port city of Marseille on the south coast of France, is one of the country’s most atmospheric cities. Much of its history remains present here, with fishmongers selling their catch along the boat-lined quay as their forefathers did hundreds of years ago. Meanwhile more contemporary landmarks include Le Corbusier’s influential Cité Radieuse complex and Zaha Hadid’s CMA CGM Tower.

There are a total of 11 car hire companies to be found at Marseille Airport, all of which are located in the front of terminal 1. However, don’t worry if you’re flying into terminal 2, as Marseille is a small airport – so small in fact that there is no shuttle between the terminals as they are so close together. This means that you should be able to reach the desk of your chosen car hire provider soon after disembarking your flight.

Our car rental company search results

To help you select the best Marseille Airport car rental deal for your specific requirements and needs, have dug deep and come up with our recommendations across three individual categories: Most affordable, Best for families and Best for luxury. To reach our conclusions we zoned in on a number of factors including cost, fleet of cars, past customer reviews and company policies. Check out our findings below.

Most Affordable: Firefly

Affordability is often high on the list of priorities for travellers looking to hire a car – especially for shorter trips. If this applies to you, then we recommend Firefly as offering the best value for money at Marseille Airport. Among their cheap car hire options are basic but reliable models such as the Ford Fiesta and Fiat Panda, both of which can usually be hired for around £70 per week – the cheapest rates we found. The Firefly offices at Marseille Airport are open from 7am to 12am Sunday to Friday, 7.30am to 12am Saturday and 8am to 12am Sunday.

Best for families: Enterprise

If you’re coming to Marseille with kids in tow, you may well want to hire a car with a bit more space. And for this purpose, we suggest you go with Enterprise, who offer an excellent choice of sizeable models such as the Opel Astra Estate and Ford Mondeo Estate. According to our searches, you can usually hire these cars for around £300 per week – not cheap but arguably worth it for that extra comfort for you and the little ones. Enterprise’s Marseille Airport operations have reassuring customer reviews too, ranging between ‘good’ and ‘excellent’ for all of our searches. Their offices at the airport are open 7am to 11.30pm daily.

Best for luxury cars: Sixt

You’ll have to cough up for the privilege, but for travellers keen to explore Marseille and the Cote d’Azur in a luxury car hire, Sixt is our top choice. We searched numerous dates and lengths of stay and for each one Sixt were offering at least one top-of-the-range BMW – even during peak season. Some other companies may offer lower rates, but we found their choice to almost always be inferior. This, combined with impressive customer reviews, should make Sixt your hire company of choice for luxury and sports cars at Marseille Airport.
